Abrohlos Islands
Abrohlos Islands
a chain of 122 islands off the coast of geraldton
The Abrolhos Islands are a chain of 122 islands, 60kms off the coast of Geraldton, Western Australia. Famous for the shipwreck of the Dutch spice trading ship 'Batavia' and the subsequent mutiny in 1629. The Indian Ocean's most southern true coral reef, rich in history and an abundance of sealife.
With abundant fishing grounds, stunning snorkeling, waters prolific in sea life, many species of seabirds and peaceful isolation, this ultimate Indian Ocean adventure has activities to please everyone.
Snorkel on the 'Batavia' wreck where you can see the ship's canons and anchors on the seabed, or explore the Wiebbe Hayes stone fort which is still standing. A remnant of the defensive walls built by mutineers and one of Australia's oldest known European structures.
